"Weebles Wobble But We Don't Fall Down"

The space shuttles are propelled by a solid fuel mixture producing millions of pounds of thrust.

Indianapolis race cars travel at high speeds averaging more than 200 mph which are powered by a highly volatile fuel mixture.

Whew~ storms have come in a cluster in our family in the past few months. Wish I could guzzle a little of that fuel to get me moving!

Remember the "weebles that wobbled but never fell down?" Just looking at the picture reminds me of my childhood~sweet memories. My brother and sister had all these toys.  I so feel like a wobbly weeble. Seems like I am wobbling round and round.

I gave my life to Jesus when I was 18 ~ and I have walked with Jesus ever since. It has made such a difference in my life.  I would not want to be anything else but a follower of Jesus. Life has been overwhelming of late for sure and I am so very thankful that I don't have to face trials alone.

~ What fuels us as a follower of Jesus Christ?
What gives you power when you open your eyes in the morning and burdens are weighing like a ton of bricks?  Only the indwelling if the Holy Spirit can give us comfort, peace and the strength to get up and put one foot in front of the other.  I am so thankful Immanuel came~ our God is with us and walks with us and talks with us each and every day.

1 John 4:12-13

King James Version (KJV)

12No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

I may not know what this day may hold but I have complete confidence that Jesus holds my hand and He will keep me from falling down.

Me and Christmas~

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I like both but I like wrapped gifts the best!

2. Real tree or Artificial?
For sure ~a real Christmas tree~I love the smell!
I do have a real pretty artificial tree and I reserve the right to use it if I have to!
So far I have three trees up and I plan on getting a real one too~ for my son's in law!

3. When do you put up the tree?

Normally I put it up on Black Friday. This year it went up sooner due to the schedule.

care of my Momma.

4. When do you take the tree down?

In most years past it comes down the day after Christmas.
I decorate the house for New Years ~clean fresh and full of snow flakes to
be replaced with Valentine decorations.
So I keep some greenery up until after Valentines Day.
It brightens the long Missouri winter.

5. Do you like eggnog?
To tell you the truth I have not tried it since I was a teenager.

My Baby Alive Doll~it was the very first year they came out!

My Brian~ Alex ~ and Jacob

8. Easiest person to buy for?

It is very special to us~ as she will celebrate Christmas this year with Jesus!
It is one of my prized treasures! She painted it in bright colors ~
which reminds me of her . She was always so full of fun and color.

10.Mail or email Christmas cards?

On the tree? I have lights on all  of my trees and everywhere else!
I love Christmas lights~just makes me happy.

17.Travel at Christmas or stay home?
We will be staying home and all my kids will be coming home ~ makes this momma happy~ on Christmas Eve. Then open presents early and head to my moms for dinner.

I love spending it with all my family!

18. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Contrary to my children's wishes every year to cheat and open gifts early~
It is always Christmas morning before my chickens are awake!
I am a "It has to be the day~ Girl."

Now it is your turn and come back to let me know so I can read your answers.
Just thinking about all these questions puts me in the Christmas spirit. So go ahead and play along!

The Past~ The Present~ The Future

In his painting “An Allegory of Prudence,” the 16th-century Venetian artist Titian portrayed Prudence as a man with three heads. One head was of a youth facing the future, another of a mature man eyeing the present, and the third, a wise old man gazing at the past. Over their heads Titian wrote a Latin phrase that means, “From the example of the past, the man of the present acts prudently so as not to imperil the future.

Oh to have that kind of wisdom~ to overcome the anxiety created by our past ~to live each day in the present with joy~ and to have the wisdom to enjoy life to its fullest right now is what I seek the most.

When I think of this topic I automatically think of the Apostle Paul~ whew the man had a horrible past! But somehow he was able to put the past to rest and move on for the Lord.

Philippians 3:13-14

 (KJV)

13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

This does not mean that all his memory was erased~ it means that God had forgiven him. He was a new creature that was free from the guilt of his past. As he lived in fellowship with Christ~ the trials of this life only made him more like Jesus.

This year has not been a page to scrapbook about with pretty pictures in my memory. It has not been a "walk in the park." I was not ready to say goodbye~ nor did I get to~ to my dad. I was not prepared for the trails this year dropped at my door.

I would have liked to write this chapter a lot different but  my trials will make me more like Jesus~ if I let them. How about you? Have you too had a rough year?

As 2011 comes to a close I need to follow Paul's example by rededicating my life to Jesus. He will enable me to live life fully in the present as I gain wisdom from the past and face the future with courage.
And He will do the same for you!

Sweet Baby Jesus~

Thank you for all your sweet comments and emails during the past week. But mostly thank you for your prayers. My mom's surgery went perfect~ and she is now home and healing. We are very thankful indeed!

Sweet Baby Jesus~
On Christmas Eve 1932, Robert McGimsey attended a midnight church service in New York City and then headed back to his one-room apartment. As he walked the final blocks, he passed the open doors of private clubs where people were shouting and swearing and singing. Others were so drunk they had passed out on the sidewalk.
What a strange way to celebrate the birth of the most perfect Person who ever lived on this earth, McGimsey thought. We seem to have missed the whole significance of His life.
That night McGimsey wrote his thoughts on the back of an envelope. These words, which were written like the spirituals he had loved growing up in the southern United States, flowed out of his heart:
Sweet little Jesus Boy,
They made You be born in a manger.
Sweet little Holy Child, didn’t know who You was.
Didn’t know You’d come to save us, Lord,
To take our sins away.
Our eyes was blind, we couldn’t see,
We didn’t know who You was.

This song is an apology to Jesus for not realizing just who He was. This Christmas season is upon us and it seems to have rolled around all too quickly. Once again we have the opportunity to look at the birth of the Saviour with new eyes of understanding and acceptance.

Will we honor Him as Lord and King this Christmas~ I sure plan to~ How about you?

Please Pray~ Update

Good Morning Blog Friends~

These plans were not on the schedule for Thanksgiving. Today my Mother will have a serious surgery at noon. Please pray that the Great Physician will guide and direct the Earthly Surgeon's hands today. Please pray for wisdom and grace. Tomorrow will be a day of turkey sandwiches and pumpkin pie shared in a hospital room but we will be ever so thankful if all goes well. God is in control.

I Need Your Prayers~

My walk with Jesus has made me strong. Yet~ today as I peg these computer keys with the death of my father still fresh on my mind I am waiting in my Momma's hospital room while she gets another CT scan~my daughter is hundreds of miles away calling needing motherly advice because my little grandson is sick for the first time with the flu and a few other issues I will not bore you with are weighing on my mind like a ton of bricks. If only that guardian angel of mine could help carry a little of my load today.

It appears that my Mom has been very sick for a long time. But our "suck it up and deal with it mentality" hid the truth from us. Even the Doctors have not seen through our we are just fine attitude. The truth is she is sick and we need your prayers.

For the first time in my life ~ my strength seems to be gone. The Lord has given me sweet peace and I know He will carry me through. Life sure gets hard to handle but God sure is good.

Psalm 131

1Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
2Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.
3Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

As I sit here reading this passage~ I am encouraged to understand that mystery is one of the hallmarks of God's character. It has challenged me to let my mind rest~since I am unable to understand all that God is doing in the universe let alone in my little corner of this big old world.

I read in these verses and see the other side of King David's calm spirit: I am unable to understand all that God is doing in me~ and it is impossible to try.

David draws a picture between a weaned child that no longer frets for what it once demanded~and a soul that has learned the same lesson. I think maybe it is  a call to humility, endurance and contentment in all circumstances.  Even when it it is so hard~ and I don't understand God's reasons. Although I wish it were not so~ divine reason is beyond my grasp.

I cry out and ask God~ "Why this anguish?" The Father gently replies "Hush child. You wouldn't understand it if I explained it to you. Just trust Me!.

SO this morning feeling overwhelmed with life I turn to David's example~ Can I trust God in my circumstances? Can I find hope in the Lord? Can I in faith and patience without fretting and questioning trust God's wisdom? Can I trust Him while He works His good in my family's lives?  Can I trust Him for His good and acceptable and perfect will?

The answer is yes for this moment!

Here Comes The Storm~

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened." - Winston Churchill

Sometimes out of no where you feel a storm brewing. What do we do when the storms of life start to rage? We are going to have troubles and trials as long as we have breath in our being! Stormy weather can cause intense feelings of fear and reactions in us.

Job 14:1

Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.

Job 5:7

Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward

In Matthew 14:22-23 the Bible gives us a story of Peter walking on the water. He had found himself in a storm in life. The disciples that were with him were afraid. They were afraid when they saw Jesus walking on the water. Jesus told them who He was. Peter walked on water too~ well at first. When Peter took his eyes off of Christ and began to concentrate on the storm around him, he became afraid and begin to sink. We will sink too~when we take our eyes off of Christ!
It is natural when we see the storm clouds swirl above our heads to give into feelings of fear. In Matthew 14:31 when Peter began to sink he called out to Jesus.

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him,
and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

I know we like to focus on the "little faith" part but we need to look at the part where Jesus stretched out His hand and caught Peter. Oh~ I love that part. Peter had failed to have the faith he needed to have but Christ caught him. This just puts the spring into my step today. Sometimes I just need Jesus to catch me too!

Then on in the chapter in verse 31 it reads~
And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Jesus did not stop the storm . No~He caught him and was with him until they got into the boat. Sometimes we have to walk through the storm~sometimes God will remove the storm.

*The important thing to remember is that Jesus will always be with us as we are facing the storms of life. You see Jesus was the very one who told them to get into the boat and go to the other side in the first place. The storm did not take Him by surprise!

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get
into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side,
while he sent the multitudes away.  Matthew 14:22

You see sometimes we have to deal with issues in our lives that we really don't like~it is easy to question God about these very issues.  We may question why we have to handle these issues because it disturbs our smooth sailing in life. Maybe~ we are in the center of God's will--- right where He told us to be----- doing what He wants us to do and still we have a storm come out of nowhere. *We can take comfort in the fact that God knows all about the storm and He is there with us through every dark sky, every loud thunder and every strike of lightning!

I Need A Pill~

PSALM 119:11

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

The past few days while I have not felt well I took a little cold pill and it worked wonderful. When it wore off I would take another one. I wish there was a " fruit- of- the- spirit" pill. That way each morning I could just take a pill and when it wore off I could  take another one.

I would bubble over with love, joy, faith, patience, and so on.  If only I could invent such a pill. The label would read, "One a day will keep the grouchies away!" I am sure my family would be the first to stock up on such a remedy!

Some days I just wake up grumbly! The culprit could be hormones, lack of sleep, over commitment,  pre-menopause, the price of tea in China , and all the above. However~ they would only be excuses!
On such days I am forced to withdraw and do some self-examination.

Almost always I find the real  reason for my condition is that I have come unplugged from my power source. I have to go to the throne of God and connect to my power source once again~My Heavenly Father! He can conquer the drudgery of daily life! Most generally I have neglected my quiet time with the Master! So to speak there really is a "fruit-of-the-spirit" pill~it is reading our Bible and praying. Have you had your pill today?

Spread Merry Not Bah Humbug~

Proverbs 17:22

King James Version (KJV)

22A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

This week I ran into one of the infamous Dollar Stores to pick up a few items. As I was checking out the lady behind me pulls her cart up to the cashier as I was leaving and huffs~ "I just hate this time of year." I look back and see a frazzled looking momma with a couple of babies in the cart and Christmas wrapping paper and such. I gave her a smile and left but her words have haunted me ever since. I was not prepared~ oh but I wish I had been. I am not skipping over Thanksgiving but I have started my shopping and the rush has begun because us mommas have much on our plates in the next month.

I decided right then and there to be prepared the next time. I think I will have a candy cane ready for the next bah humbugger and a message about why this time of year is so very special~ along with a helping hand.

After all those of us who have Jesus in our hearts have a special gift we can share with those we meet. Not only that but we can spread some merry too! What a wonderful time to be full of peace, love and joy. To give a hand~ help someone unload their cart in the super store isle or hold a baby to help a young momma~ maybe even hand out a dollar or two. My momma raised us three kids by herself on a poverty level~ but we never knew it. She manages a dollar better than any I have ever seen. Last year at Christmas she set aside some rolled dollars and handed them out with a message of Jesus. Remember we can never out give our God!

I am getting a head start this year for it is going to busier than normal but nothing should keep us from celebrating the true gift of Christmas. I think it would be a great time to determine to not allow ourselves to be caught up in the busyness so that we miss the chance to share Jesus.

This morning I have sent My Brian to the woods to fill my freezer and I am off to get those early bird specials but I plan on looking for ways to spread some Merry mixed with a little Jesus!

Scents Of The Season~ Bath Salt Recipe ~Frugal Gift Idea

Scents of The Season Bath Salt Recipe~

3 packages of flavored Kool-Aid ( w/o sugar)
3 quart container of Epsom salt
Essential Oil ~optional ~add to salt for the white layer

If layering ~split the container up into three different bowls and use a different color/scent for each layer.  I left one layer white and added some scent.
I found all my ingredients at the $ Store except for my essential oil but that can be bought there too. I thought the sugar shaker would be good to shake the salt out into the bath water.

I am making a cranberry~ orange one for Christmas.  I think strawberry ~lime would be nice too!  The possibilities are endless.

You can seal your jar with warm paraffin or put in a bottle with a cork to keep the colors from moving. Add a bow and a cute tag and what a frugal gift homemade from the heart!

Momma's Hands~

Proverbs 31:20

King James Version (KJV)

20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

With the Holidays quickly approaching I have been doing a lot of thinking about new beginnings. All my kids will be home for Christmas this year and I am so excited. I am making my list and checking it twice. I have started shopping and hope to have it all wrapped up by Thanksgiving weekend.

I have been thinking back to how my momma and grandma made my Christmas in the past memorable. I too~ want to start making those memories with my sweet grandbabies.

When I look at my hands I see both my moms and my grandmother Baker's hands. My mother's hands are long and slender~always cool to touch. My mother's hands are pretty yet show wear and tear. My grandmother only hand one hand and it was weary and worn from doing the work of two hands~ yet beautiful to me. She had a big strong hand.

All mothers need big hearts and big hands.  They begin to gain strength when they grip the rail in the delivery room and then gently hold that baby for the first time. Before long they are changing diapers, washing dirty faces and bottoms, cleaning spit-ups, wiping tears, rocking sleepy babies and putting babies to bed.

They brace chubby little toddlers and keep them out of harm's way. They toss balls, prepare holiday dinners, set festive tables, unfold birthday parties, and wrap Christmas packages. They color and do homework~ rake leaves for little kids to jump in and find jars to hold lightning bugs.

They push swings and let go of bikes as a child learns to peddle. They create Halloween costumes, mend scraped knees, make a sick child well, write letters to send to camp and teach a child how to pray.

They grasp the steering wheel while chauffeuring from one place to the next all to soon they grip the seat as their teen learns how to drive.

Those same hands wave goodbye while sending off their baby to college ~ and adjust a cherished daughter's wedding veil. A mother's hands are loving hands, disciplining hands, grieving  hands, protecting hands, and providing hands. They embrace a child and then when it is time~ she opens them and lets them go.

When I think about my mother and grandmother's hand I only have to look at my own and I am reminded of them both.  They are getting weary at times and worn.

As I look at my hands ~ I thank God for giving me these hands to show love. I thank Him for the love I have received from the two women who shaped and molded me with their loving hands.

I thank God that He holds me in the palm of His hands. I pray today that I will use these hands for good, to help a child, to give a hug, to cook a meal, to touch with kindness, to caress with love. And as these hands let go I have a God who gently wipes away the tears.

Most of all today I want to lift these hands up to praise my God for all the blessings that have passed through these worn hands.
