Memorial Day With Driving Miss Billie~

I know you all love to hear of my adventures with Miss Billie~ she truly would make a great character for a book. I have learned so much during the time we have spent together. This a re-post from 2010~ but it just seems fitting to re-post today. Miss Billie has had a bad fall and is having surgery this morning. Please pray for her and the Doctors as they prepare to put her back together again........ My heart is tender today and I am praying for the Lord's will in Miss Billie's life.

Memorial Day With Driving Miss Billie~

Yesterday~ I  drove Miss Billie to the cemetery to place flowers upon the graves of those she has outlived. You see Miss Billie has outlived most all of her family and most of her friends.  We carefully picked flowers from her garden~ (which were all taken from the gardens of her relatives while they were alive)~ of which we placed flowers upon their graves. She refused to let me pick the flowers~even in the hardest to reach places. She told me, "I must not get dependent upon people~I will become wimpy." To which I replied, "Miss Billie~no one can ever call you wimpy." She still drives and goes to her trainer three times a week, keeps her hair colored and dresses like she stepped out of a magazine!

She placed pink roses upon her Momma's grave ~she was born in the late 1800's. We placed yellow orchids upon her father's grave because yellow is Miss Billie's favorite color~just happens to be mine too. Purple flowers were placed upon Sarah~her best friend's grave for her favorite color. Her Auntie ~whom was named Florence hated her name but when Billie was born ~she demanded that Miss Billie be named Florence. Poor Miss Billie! Her father hated it and always called her Billie.  Her Sister was her best friend and she loved peonies.  So ants and all ~we placed tons of pink peonies on Patty's  grave.   "We must not kill creatures" ~ says Miss Billie~"both great or small." (even spiders) Her brother -in-law fought in the War ~so Miss Billie proudly placed red roses and the American flag.

Miss Billie and I both know her days are getting short on this earth ~ she has spent most of her days. Life is hard for her and she hurts most days. As we leave the Cemetery I hear Miss Billie say to herself or maybe those who she loves ~ "It is so hard but I must carry on."

It is just a real good reminder for us all to cherish those we love~we will not have them forever. Leave
a legacy of a Godly testimony behind~for you will not be here forever. And~cherish the moments~for they will soon be history.

When we returned back to Miss Billie's house~ she shared her pictures with me so I could have a picture with each face.  It was a day I will always cherish~ and lessons I will not soon leave behind.

Are You Waiting For The Rooster To Crow?

Sadie
Farming On Faith is a little hobby farm ~we have a pond loaded with all kinds of neat critters, a dog, two cats, and 8 chickens. We have a garden, fruit trees, grapes and raspberries and 10 acres that we continue to fill.  I have hopes of a green house and a huge orchard. Maybe even a small little bakery or business that serves lunch~ just praying about it.

We are planning in the days to come to add to our little homestead~oh My Brian and I have many ideas about what we will do with our little farm as the days go by. But for now I am just a chicken farmer ~tee hee. I don't have any roosters ( they tend to be mean) ~ but I do have the fattest ~plump laying hens you have ever seen.

Those plans could change with a phone call.

Ruby

Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

I heard a  story is told of a man who raised chickens. (Since I started raising chickens I am kind of fond of chicken stories.) Well this chicken story has a rooster whose occasional crowing greatly annoyed a neighbor. Early one morning the unhappy neighbor called the farmer and complained, “That
miserable bird of yours keeps me up all night!”

“I don’t understand,” came the reply. “He hardly ever crows; but if he does, it’s never more than two or three times.”
“That isn’t my problem,” retorted the neighbor. “It’s not how often he crows that irritates me! What keeps me awake is not knowing when he might crow!”

I have to admit~ I can be just like that grumbly neighbor. I can worry myself into a disaster about a distressing situation or difficult circumstances that could happen tomorrow. This is just as silly as the neighbor waiting for the rooster to crow. Instead of rejoicing in the sufficiency of today~we become anxious and start borrowing sorrow for tomorrow.
When you think about the most difficult days that you have walked through ~what do you remember?

I remember just how God held me up and brought me safely through. In fact those times are the sweetest times I have had with my Lord.  We don't have to borrow sorrow~when it does come knocking on our door or maybe I should say crowing loudly ~God will be there and He is sufficient to bring us through~this gives me great confidence that I don't have to worry and fret.

When I met Christ as my Saviour ~ I placed my life in His hands. He can be depended on~He be trusted~He's the guiding light in the middle of the darkest night. He's a friend indeed even when I'm not in need.

If you know Christ as your Saviour you can take these words to heart.

Matthew 6:25-34 (King James Version)

25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

When we choose to place our trust in Him~He will give us rest for our souls ~and the peace of God will fill our minds.

We can stop foolishly waiting for the rooster to crow!

Why worry? Are tomorrow's skies more blue
If on our beds we restless roll and toss
With burning, sleepless eyes until the morn,
Just building bridges w
e may never cross? —Anon.
Worrying is paying interest on troubles that may never come due!

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce (Made From Canned Tomatoes)

1/2 cup chopped onion
3 cloves chopped garlic
4 cans diced tomatoes
1 can tomato soup
3 Tbs olive oil
1/4 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. oregano
1/4 rosemary
2 whole bay leaves
pinch of fennel seeds

* Tip~
Add salt and  brown sugar to taste if you wish. I like a little sweet and salty!

Saute onions in oil until slightly transparent~ then add garlic and brown just a bit. Add the tomatoes and all spices. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for about one hour.  Finally add the soup if you feel it needs to be thickened ~ you can omit if you feel it is fine without it.

Enjoy~

Farming On Faith's New And Improved Homemade Laundry Soap~

Updated 10/8/12

In my journey to make money by saving money I have to say the biggest one money saving tip is my homemade Laundry Soap~and I am picky!
I have been using Homemade Laundry Soap four years now. Here is my New And Improved Homemade Laundry Soap Recipe.

Farming On Faith's Laundry Soap Cast of Characters~
1 bar of Fels Naptha
1 1/2 cup of Borax
1 1/2 cup of Washing Soda (NOT BAKING SODA)
4 cups of water

Easy Directions~

1*Grate bar of soap. Put in an old pan and cook with water until completely dissolved on medium heat.

2*Next~ add the Borax and Washing Soda and whisk. It will start to thicken like frosting. Whisk for 10 minutes on medium heat. (Use an old pan so you can whisk it good.) It will begin to thicken.

3* Pour the soap in a large mixing bowl and let it cool. This will take a few hours~ whisk it when you think about it. As it cools it will thicken~ a lot. Keep adding small amounts of water as you whisk it until it completely cools and you get the texture you like. Mine resembles cream cheese frosting in texture. Remember this is very concentrated so only use a couple Tablespoons for an HE Washer and maybe 1/4 cup for a regular washing machine. It works wonderful and no more goop!

Let's Not Worry~

Matthew 6:33

33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
We live in a very stressful time in our world. If we are not careful we will live in a state of anxiety. Many of us are worried more about tomorrow than today. In doing this we bypass today's contentment because we are worried about what may happen tomorrow. In this passage we read the people in the early churches~ Christians were worried too.

In verse 31 they asked:
*What shall we eat?
*What shall we drink?
*With what shall we clothe ourselves?

Jesus tells them in verse 34, " Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

Each day has enough trouble of its own. ~Don't borrow sorrow!
Rather than worry here is what we can do:
*Seek His kingdom.
*Seek His righteousness.

When we plan our day around these priorities~we will have clarity on what to say yes or no to! I have to be careful for many days I get overwhelmed because I have put to many things on my list for the day!

Life offers many good choices on how to schedule our days. But we only have 24 hours a day. As a Homeschool Mom~most of my day is already scheduled by our school day. When I cram more into our day it leaves for a grouchy Mom~Teacher!

Here is my guideline for godly ordering of our day:
*Personal relationship to Him ( Matthew 6:33, Philippians 3:8)
*Our time for home and family~schooling ( Genesis 2:24, Psalm 127:3,     I Timothy 3:2-5)
*Our time for work (I Thessalonians 4:11,12)
*Our time for ministry and community activities ( Colossians 3:17)

I can't do all the things that come my way.

It is okay to say no~after learning to say no easily, we can major on the big things of life and not be bogged down with issues that don't really matter.

*Say no to the good things and save the yes for the best.*

Matthew 6:25-34

“Half of the troubles of this life can be traced
to saying yes too quickly and not saying
no soon enough.” - Josh Billings

Not Your Own~

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

If He has bought you with a price~ you are not your own.

You might say what in the world do you mean?

If you have accepted the free gift of salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, asked Him to come into your life and be your Saviour, accepted that His blood on the cross is the only way to wash away your sin ~YOU ARE NO LONGER FREE TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE AS YOU WANT!  This is so contrary to my nature~and yours too.

I truly desire that I live a life full of rose gardens and white picket fence. I desire ease and pleasure. I want to be happy all the time and everyone just get along and feel warm fuzzy feelings!

God may deny me of things I greatly desire. He may allow some adversity to come along to make me more like Him.

My life is no longer mine~I am to be doing what God wants me to do with my life!

Now~I must admit I do have many rose gardens in my life that God has blessed me with: My Brian~the love of my life, my beautiful children, a wonderful Christian family, my church and last but not least my little Farming On Faith.

I am happy ~well most of the time. I live a really good life but I have learned that being bought with a price means I do not always get to do the things I want with my life. I need to be willing to give up my dreams and goals to God!  He is much wiser than me anyway~so I would be better off letting Him plan my life and agenda.

We sometimes fear that losing ownership means God may make our life hard and wearisome, depriving us of our desires. But~ I have found in my Christian walk that God will never be indebted to me. He blesses me beyond my hopes or dreams. We can trust Him~He is a loving Father who makes no mistakes!

 My cute little nieces~

The raspberries are yummy!

The grapes are coming along nicely.

The chicken coop got a good spring cleaning. (the dreaded chore~check) Sami and Jewels were fighting over the same nesting box and got a good scolding while I was cleaning. They listen to me about as well as my children do!

I am so excited I have a special day planned with a friend~ so I am off and running but I will be back soon.

“Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
