Sesame Seed Chicken~

This is such an easy recipe. I made it for my Home Economics class this week and promised to post the recipe for my students to copy. It is a lower fat version of the oriental favorite. It is so yummy!

6 boneless chicken breast
1/2 cup honey
1 cup water
2 Tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Cook chicken in olive oil until done.

Mix together honey, soy sauce, water, corn starch, ginger, pepper flakes. Whisk until all the corn starch is dissolved.

Slowly add to chicken and mix until thickened.

Enjoy! Yummy!

Cheer Up~ Buttercup

I wandered as a cloud,
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at one I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
-William Wordsworth

Oh my stars~ I don't want to complain but I am so ready to see these sweet little daffodils. They are a forerunner of what's to come here in Missouri. Sometimes they bloom in the midst of snow. They most always bloom in March. I am anxiously awaiting their arrival this year. My grandmother called them Buttercups. What do you call them?

Yellow is my favorite color of all the colors. It reminds me of sunshine and makes me happy. I love all flowers but yellow anything is my favorite.

My Boston and I planted these yellow flowers for his momma last February in Washington. Flowers have a way of making me smile. They remind me of the amazing Creator of the Universe. They cheer me up~ they just make life beautiful. I love to watch them bloom.

These flowers I bought at a greenhouse owned by a sweet Amish lady.
They were new last year ~ they are called Lemon Slices.
I am hoping to find them again this year.

I love to nourish my flowers. I talk to them, feed them, water them and give them coffee grounds and egg shells for a special treat.  I make sure they have plenty of sunshine. It has to be just right. I may move a planter several times if it is not getting enough sun or too much sun. It may sound silly to you but it does make them bloom.

Wouldn't it be great if someone could just nourish our souls like I nourish my flowers. When we are feeling a little wilted in life ~ it would be like magic to have someone water us, feed us and place us in the sunshine so we could bloom. Just nourish us until we glowed again.

When life gets a little gloomy we want others to nourish us ~ we tend to wilt and dry up in our faith just like the flowers do when they are neglected. Sometimes others are just as wilted themselves. Our Heavenly Father~ the Creator of this Universe is not only our Redeemer but He is the Restorer.

Here is a little sunshine for your soul~ a little nourishment for your wilted self.
I could use a little myself today~

Matthew 11:28

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Psalm 23:3

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Psalm 145:14

The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

Psalm 71:28-31

Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Now isn't that better?
Cheer up Buttercup!

This Is A Fantastic Amish Book!

I read and review a lot of books. Sometimes they are just so-so and I skim them. NOT ~ this one. I did not want to miss one single word of this book. As Winter Storm Nika blew I was curled up with this book and coffee.

I was captivated from the very first line. You couldn't help but put yourself in Lindie's shoes. The book starts off with her brother taking her~ pregnant from Ohio to Michigan to marry Josiah. An arranged marriage is not what she dreamed of but she had no choice.  Josiah agrees to marry her out of desperation and tells her up front he will give her his name but not his heart. How in the world did this poor Amish girl get herself in this mess?

Life is not easy for Lindie ~ caring for Josiah's deaf and out of control child. Not to mention that Josiah's father-in-law who won't even look at her let along speak to her. And Josiah refusing to give his heart again in honor of his late wife. And then there was that fact of her being pregnant and trying to keep it under wraps.

I absolutely loved this book. Out of 5 stars I give it a 10. I have never read a book by Ruth Reid but I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series~ Amish Wonders Series.

A Note Form The Publisher~

Book One in the Amish Wonders series.
How far can God’s mercy reach?
Lindie Wyse is pregnant out of wedlock and thinks an arranged marriage is the only way to preserve her future. Josiah Plank is certain he’ll never love again, but he needs someone to care for his eight-year-old daughter, Hannah. The two take on their arrangement tentatively at first but soon realize they are each in for more than they imagined.
Lindie experiences a breakthrough with Hannah when she recognizes Hannah’s special gifts, but a risky pregnancy and serious health issues threaten to demolish the foundation Josiah and Lindie are building. Will their growing love survive despite their struggles, or will their hearts become as cold as the northern winter?

Here Comes Winter Storm Nika~ Celebrate With Snow Pancakes

Here comes Winter Storm Nika ~ so we might as well celebrate!
These pancakes are fun to make and they taste light and fluffy.
Enjoy!

SNOW PANCAKES

2 cups of flour
1-tablespoon baking powder
½ teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
2 eggs well beaten
1-½ cups of milk

  • In a large bowel mix and sift the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together.

  • Combine the eggs and milk in another bowl.

  • Slowly add the milk  and egg mixture to the dry ingredients.
  • Stir well and set aside. The batter will be thick.
  • Next grease your griddle and get it good and hot.
  • When the griddle is hot, quickly go outdoors and scoop up fresh snow.

  • Fold in 1-½ cups of new snow and mix well.

  • Cook the pancakes as usual.

*Tips For Snow Pancakes*
Old snow won’t do.Use only fresh, light and newly fallen immaculate snow. Small amounts of naturally occurring ammonia in fresh snow acts as a leaving agent and causes the pancakes to rise.
Ammonia in new snow will evaporate very soon after it has fallen.

The Awesome Power Of Not Saying Anything At All~

O that ye would altogether hold your peace!
and it should be your wisdom.

Job 13:5

When verbal attacks fly, when discussions get out of hand, when personal insults cut there are times when silence is golden. When I read this verse above it just brings up a picture of My Brian. He is a man of few words but he uses his words wisely and it makes him even wiser. All these years I have observed him and he is one of the wisest men I know. I have watched and it has proven to be true in his personal and professional life. It has served him well.

There are those that will always try to put others down to make themselves appear better ~ and that is horribly wrong. We see it in the school yards,we see it in politics and we see in the church. But how we respond to those attacks is our choice. We get to decide.  It seems when someone is trying so hard to lift themselves up to prove they are better or more spiritual than others~ they have a major reason for doing so. Deep inside they have a  hurt ~ insecurity or brokenness that God is working to heal.

So how do we handle these kind of hurts that come our way?  I think Job says it best in the verse above. Job was a very successful~ spiritual man. He had great wisdom~ but when the enemy attacked  he ran to God and remained silent.

God can and will fight our battles for us. We simply need to turn it over to Him and remember sometimes silence is golden.

Hello February~

Cabin fever has set in at Farming On Faith. It is cold and snowing here this morning in Missouri! It looks like all week it will be cold and Winter Storm Nika is on her way. I have the cupboards full and a stack of review books so I say, "Give it all you got~ Nika." Don't be mad at me but we might as well laugh as to cry. Right?

No matter what the weather man says ~ winter snowmen and snowflakes are coming down today. I am needing a little cheering up so I am re-arranging furniture and putting up some cheery Valentines.  Do you re-arrange furniture? I am reading "Twirl" from Patsy Clairmont right now and I knew I loved her. She re-arranges furniture all the time too. I am so in love with this book.

"If we are to decorate our day we must at times drag, pull, and lug heavy furniture of facing the truth. And the truth is, we are not in charge. Whoever said we need to hand in our badge as director of the universe was right. Relinquishment and flexibility are kissing cousins, and gratitude is their best friend." ( Patsy Clairmont -2013 Twirl)

It has been a week full of trouble!  It seems like when I need encouraged in the faith He will send the right words or often the right book to speak to my heart~ always just what I need. "Twirl" has done just that~ encouraged me in my faith!  (Review coming soon.)

Wow~ what a reason to celebrate today!

In case you need another reason ~ Spring is only 46 days away. So I am packing up the gloom and enjoying these last few days of Winter. Did I just say that?

Did you know that today is National Carrot Day, (Carrot Cake anybody?) Wedding Ring Day and Elmo's Birthday?  Happy Birthday Elmo!

"Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November,
February has twenty-eight alone,
All the rest have thirty-one;
Excepting leap year, that 's the time
When February's days are twenty-nine."

FACTS ABOUT FEBRUARY
According to the Georgian calendar, February is the second month of the year, and also the shortest month. February has 28 days until Julius Caesar gave it 29, and 30 days every four years. According to tradition, Augustus, the Roman emperor, took one day off to add one day to August, the month named after him. We now have February with 28 days, and 29 on leap years.
In the northern half of the world, February is a very cold month. There are usually sunny days that show Spring is not too far off. The Southern hemisphere usually enjoy midsummer weather during February. (Source Unknown)

I would like to have engraved inside every wedding band~
"Be kind to one another."
This is the Golden Rule of marriage and the
secret of making love last through the years.
— Randolph Ray
Happy February!
