I read this book from front to cover on the trek across the states from Missouri to the state of Washington. I loved this book. Cate captured my heart from the beginning of the book. Being a young girl who sacrificed her childhood to raise her baby sister ~ she was one serious gal. She was required to grow up before her time when her mother died after giving birth to her baby sister. Cate became the women of the house way to early~giving up her childhood and girlish dreams.
Her circumstances made her way to serious for life which made her one prickly pear. That kept most of her suitors at arm's length. Yet~ she truly thought she had no interested lookers because she was homely. Which could not be further from the truth.
What I so enjoyed about this book is that circumstances have a way of making us all defensive and hard to get close to but sooner or later we are faced with a great decision. Do we want to be cranky or crotchety or do we want to allow God to make us into a sweet woman of God? Watching Cate surrender her will up to God's will is a reminder to us all. Regardless of the hard issues in her life ~growing in her relationship with God allowed her find her joy.
