A Girl And Her Coffee~ Happy Lord's Day

Would you like some coffee this morning?~ wish you could share a cup with me on my deck. I really need to be moving but this cool air and watching my three little kittens who lost their mittens is keeping me here. I would so enjoy your company this morning. I should be getting myself ready for church and lunch too because in less than two hours I have a room full of rowdy 4 and 5 year olds that we need to teach Sunday School to.

But right now I am enjoying my hot coffee~ coffee brings warmth and comfort to me. Can I tell you a secret?~ I am not a big coffee person. I may drink one cup in the morning. However part of drinking coffee is ritual, part relation, part hope ~having a cup of coffee in my hand just feels natural. The first thing I do in the morning is start the coffee. Hearing it perk makes me do a little dance in my kitchen and the smell takes me back to my Grandma Baker's house. She only had one arm due to cancer and so she used her left hand to do everything~ she would use her index finger to stir her coffee. Why I don't know but she did? Her favorite thing to eat was hot coffee and vanilla ice cream. Oh~ sweet memories. She is enjoying her coffee this morning in glory!

Coffee is the universal welcome. Even people who don't like coffee like to smell it. I have a friend who does not like coffee but makes a pot every day. In a  different way it gets her going too. My coffee is a wake up call. I drink one cup of coffee in the morning with just a little creamer. I sip on it all morning and even have to microwave it a few times to warm it up. Needless to say it is my wake up call.

I dare to say I have learned this girl can't live without her coffee~ it has become a habit. But more important yet~ I can't live without my Spiritual wake-up call. I have come to depend upon God's Word EACH MORNING. I was listening to a Bible teacher yesterday and was challenged to spend at least five minutes each morning waiting upon the Lord~ this will be after my Bible reading and prayer. I mean five minutes in meditation waiting on the Lord. Why you may ask?

Isaiah 40:31

King James Version (KJV)

31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

See it makes sense~ just spending a few minutes asking God to renew your strength and rest your mind and soul from this weary world ~ resting in Him. I have to tell you it works~ but I had to discipline myself!  My mind wants to wonder in so many different directions!

So this morning as you are having your cup of coffee remember to let God awake your soul.

Happy Lord's Day~   How do you like your coffee?

It saddens me that many of us need to have pain as a wake-up call.
Now I try my best to not stand on the sidelines of life with deadened,
dulled, disinterested senses until another shock
makes me suddenly aware of the magic, marvel and mystery of it all. - Breathnach
