12So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
I remember as a Christian school student memorizing this verse~ thinking sure I can count my days. As time went on I discovered what this verse really meant. Especially when someone I loved passed away .
The great artist Raphael died at the early age of 37~ and his relatives carried his unfinished painting~ The Transfiguration ~ in the funeral procession. They felt it was fitting due to the limited time he was allotted to use his creative talent. They felt it was an appropriate symbol of his unfulfilled earthly aspirations.
That half painted picture has another meaning to me~one that reminds me that life is fleeting and death may come unexpectedly. Such as it was for me this fall when I received one of those dreaded calls ~ my father had been found in his yard~ he was only 63.
Life truly is a gift to be not just measured but we should treasure each and every day. It should be treated as a gift of great value~ used to its best advantage. To have no regrets at life's end and to have much reward in Heaven ~ we must make the most of every opportunity.
Ephesians 5:15-16
King James Version (KJV)
15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
My days seem to be going by so fast I am having a hard time numbering them. I don't want to leave this earth with unfinished business. I want to leave behind a testimony of salvation for those I love. I want to my life to point others to Christ. I want others to see Jesus in me. What else really matters?
Happy Lord's Day~
