Deuteronomy 8:2
King James Version (KJV)
2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
Well according to this verse He does. No one likes to be tested~ so why would God test His people, the Israelites?
They were held in bondage for 430 years. When the mighty Pharaoh let them go he changed his mind and sent soldiers to attack them. Then the children had to face consequences for wrong decisions and were lost in the desert for forty years. They were pushed beyond their limits and began crying out to God with questions. They even questioned why they left Egypt in the first place~ a place of slavery, cruelty and starvation.
You may be asking what does this have to do with me? Well God tells us in His Word that were are to look to his chosen people as our example~ Egypt is a picture of the fallen world who does not want God.
So why were they allowed to be tested? For their good and for His glory. God wanted the chosen people to know that they could trust Him. He wanted them to know the heart of God and to understand that they were loved and treasured. To understand that with God they were capable when they put their trust in Him.
I think the greatest blessing that has come from my testings is that I now understand that I am so weak on my own but in God I am strong.
This morning in my devotion time I read this~
"When Satan test us or when we test God, it serves no purpose. But when God tests us, the testing is for us to show us what is in us. He doesn't shame us. I believe it has to be a gift of love-His own divine show-and-tell. He is showing us we are strong.....in Him. ----Sheila Walsh
I was hoping after the last school year life would give a bit of a reprieve. But it does not seem to be so. It already seems to be starting off with many uncertainties. Yet~ my heart is at peace knowing that we can trust the all seeing eye of our Father. We can trust His all loving hand and we can rest in the assurance that He is in control of all things. He sees the big picture.
Now that is reason to rest in Him today.
