Who Are You Running To?

Don't you just love this window?  It is in our guest bathroom. I call it my "Go to meeting with Jesus~ Holy Spirit Room."

Ready or not here comes a brand new school year. Our life revolves around the school year calendar. This year brings many new changes for our family. I keep thinking life will slow down to a new normal. But I give up. It is just never going to happen~ we just tend to live in high speed.

Author and cartoonist James Thurber made this provocative observation about life: “All persons must learn before they die what they are running from and what they are running to, and why.”

I thought about this as I was reading this fact in the Daily Bread devotion. What am I running from? Our thoughts and actions are shaped by our past: a broken home, standards set for us that we can never reach, insecurity~ who knows~ the list could go on and on.

But I have found it matters so much more ~what we are running to. Some run to fame and fortune. Some people run in search of someone to fill the emptiness. It reminds me of all the people running to line up to get the best seats on the air plane. There are many addictions that we could run to if we wanted to.

There was a song from the 80's that I loved~

"They don't know that I go running home when I fall down." It is so true. I run to my Heavenly Father.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works. Psalm 73:28

The Psalmist~ Asaph knew what he was running from~ doubt and despair. He also knew WHO  he needed to run to.

He also said~
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Psalm 73:24

I have figured out what I am running from but what is most important is WHO I  am running to.

Just like Asaph ~ I can say, "It is good for me to draw near to God."
