What Does The Cross Mean To You?

Galatians 6:14

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

When I was a child at age 5 I started riding a church bus on Sunday mornings. From an early age I had a desire to know God. I loved going to church. I felt the peace oozing from the walls of the little red brick building where Bible Baptist began. I hungered for the things of God.

It was not until I was 18 years old that I repented of my sin and accepted that Christ could love me and save my soul. It took a long while for me to trust God~ this girl had some trust issues. It has been the most amazing journey~ and I now know that I can trust God.

This time of year our thoughts spiritually are directed to the cross and the unfathomable price that Jesus paid for our sin debt.

I have a cross that I display at Easter time. I also have a gold cross necklace that almost always hangs around my neck~ my father gave it to me on my wedding day. It is very special to me even more so now with my father's passing.

Some don't like to take lightly the cross by wearing it as jewelry or displaying is as an ornamental piece of decoration~and that is fine.

But to me the cross represents the awesome price that was paid on that old rugged tree. It was an ugly ~ horrible sight that day that my Saviour laid down His life for the sin of the world. To me that cross is priceless~ valuable. In my home I have many crosses and they remind me what a price was paid for my redemption~ which makes it beautiful.

So when I wear my special cross that was bought for me by my father or I display my Easter cross on my mantel I am prayerfully wanting all who see it and know that I am a follower of Jesus.

In April 2006, a Methodist church in the city of Dudley, England, found out that it would have to pay a fee to put a cross on its new building. Yes, a fee was required because under British law the cross is an advertisement. It proclaims to the world, whether on a person or a building, that the blood-stained cross of Calvary is our only hope of forgiveness and salvation.

That being the case~ I want to advertise that accepting the free gift of salvation that Jesus paid for me on the cross is the very best decision I have ever made. Do you remember a time you invited Jesus to be your Lord and Saviour? Click here to find out what God's Word has to say about it. It has best the most important decision I have ever made.

Our Bible tells us that the cross was the  instrument of execution used on our Saviour. (Matt. 27:22-26) That angry crowd chanted, "Let Him be crucified." The cross is a sign of His death and it must never be taken lightly.

To me it is my eternal hope~ it reminds me to take up my cross daily and follow Him.
