Education Starts At Home~ Are You Ready For Back To School?

It's getting to be that time of year for the lazy days of summer to give way to the busy days of fall. Time again for school to start. My Brian is an educator and so we send him off the first of August to prepare for another year of school. I have always spent those couple of weeks cleaning and preparing the school room and ordering curriculum. This will be my 20th year of homeschooling. This year is bittersweet. Caleb is the baby of the family and he will be entering into the 10th grade. Caleb is enrolled in a distance learning program ~so there is not much preparing this year. NO longer do I get to buy fun school supplies~ like colored paper, markers and crayons. (I just love to smell a new box of crayons.)  I am going to try and do some fun things this year with my teenage boy~for all too soon he will be spreading his wings too.

There is more to getting our children ready for school than filling backpacks and sending them on a bus or in my case preparing the schoolroom and  ordering the right curriculum. It begins with preparing them spiritually. Before they hit the books in public school, private school or homeschool they need to be prepared. How can we do that?

They need to know the most important things they will ever learn comes from one book~ the Bible.  This was the main reason I chose to homeschool. I wanted my children to be taught God's Word as the foundation for their life. I believe that if a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Saviour and loves Him with their whole heart ~then God will give them wisdom. True wisdom comes from the Word of God. So my goal has always been that we put God first in everything~even our education.  With God all things are possible.

If you have school-age children ~the pattern you develop for teaching them God's Word is so very important! No matter what their school situation is -whether home-school, Christian school. private school, or public school- the main responsibility of spiritual training belongs to the parents.

We need to be teaching our children about God and His Word.

In our home we have always read a devotion and a Proverbs for the day. Today being July 25th we will read Proverbs 25. When my kids were small we would read Keys for Kids in the morning. It is so important to me that my children love God with their whole heart and put Him first ~even in their schooling.

Happy Back to School!
Please pray for Hannah ~as we are preparing for her upcoming wedding.

Deuteronomy 6:1-9

King James Version (KJV)
1Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
